Disadvantages of Computer:-
The use of computer has also created some problems in society which are as follows.
Unemployment:-
Different tasks are performed automatically by using computers. It reduces the need of people and increases unemployment in society.
Wastage Of Time And Energy:-
Many people use computers without positive purpose. They play games and chat for a long period of time. It causes wastage of time and energy. Young generation is now spending more time on the social media websites.
Like Facebook, Twitter etc or texting their friends all night through smartphones which is bad for both studies and their health. And it also has adverse effects on the social life.
Data Security:-
The data stored on a computer can be accessed by unauthorized persons through networks. It has created serious problems for the data security.
Computer Crimes:-
People use the computer for negative activities. They hack the credit card numbers of the people and misuse them or they can steal important data from big organizations.
Privacy Violation:-
The computers are used to store personal data of the people. The privacy of a person can be violated if the personal and confidential records are not protected properly.
Health Risks:-
The improper and prolonged use of computer can results in injuries or disorders of hands, wrists, elbows, eyes, necks and back. The users can avoid health risks by using the computer in proper position.
They must also take regular breaks while using the computer for longer period of time. It is recommended to take a couple of minutes breaks after 30 minutes of computer usage.
Impact On Environment:-
The computer manufacturing processes and computer waste are polluting the environment. The wasted parts of computer can release dangerous toxic materials. Green computer is a method to reduce the electricity consumed and environmental waste generated when using a computer.
It includes recycling and regulating manufacturing processes. The used computers must be donated or disposed off properly.

Description of different parts of a Computer:-
Some of the following components may be similar to what you have seen while seated at a personal computer.
Mouse:-
Mouse used for making selections. There are two & three buttons on a mouse. Most actions are performed using the left mouse button. Some mice have cords and some do not.
Connects to the computer and requires the use of its own power cord.
Compact Disk (CD):-
This device is used for storage. Some CD's hold information to be loaded into a computer. Some are used to hold information from the computer. It depends on what type of CD it is.
The thumb drive is a portable storage device. You use it store information from a computer and use it on another system. They are also known as flash drives.
Turning the Computer On and Off Introduction:-
One thing a computer definitely needs to work is electricity! A desktop computer must always be connected to a power outlet, while a laptop may operate on its own intarnal battery for a few hours. In any case, without power the computer is pretty useless. In this lesson, we'll cover the basics of how to turn on and off a computer.
The Power button: for turning on the CPU:-
A desktop computer has a power button on the front. By pushing in on the button and then releasing it, you trun the computer on. You should hear a noise like a fan or a vacuum cleaner, and some lights will appear on the front of the computer.
Here is a picture of a typical power button. Note the green light that indicates that the power is on.
Separate power Button for the Monitor:-
You may also need to Switch on the monitor in order to see what the computer is displaying. A similar power button will ususlly be found in the lower right hand corner of the monitor screen.
Turning Off a Computer:-
Use the mouse to click on the Start Button at the lower left hand side of the desktop. When the menu appears, click on Turn Off Computer. Finally, Click on Turn Off. This is the sequence for a computer with the Windows XP operating system.
It may be slightly different of you have a different version of Windows, but the idea is the same. There are occasions when a computer is not able to turn off. If it gets stuck and will not finish turning off, you may need to use the power button.
To do this, hold the power button in until you hear the computer stop and see the screen go blank. Doing this may result in an error message when you turn the computer back on, but will usually not harm the computer.

The power button on a computer (And Many Other Devices) displays shapes which come form a standard of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
1- On.
2- Off.
3- Toggle Between on and Off.
4- Toggle Between on and standby Mode.
Most desktop computers, when off, are actually in standby mode and use a small amount of power. If they are turned off with with a power strip or are unplugged, they are completely off.
Practice:-
Find the power button on your computer. Turn it off and listen and watch for lights.The computer takes a few minutes to turn fully on. After the screen stops changing and the computer quiets down, use the Start button to turn the computer off again. How long does it take?

Power button:-
The button on a computer that is pushed in and released to turn the computer on. It should not normally be used to turn the computer off. Toggle, In computing, to turn a feature (Or Computer) on and off again, by pressing one key or button to turn the feature on, then pressing the same key or button again to turn the feature off.
Standby mode:-
A mode in which electronic appliances are turned off but under power and ready to activate on command.
